Life after Larian: Hasbro confirms plans for Baldur's Gate 4
Despite the success of Baldur's Gate 3 , Larian Studios was not interested in developing a sequel, which cannot be said about Hasbro, the owner of Wizards of the Coast and the Dungeons & Dragons franchise.
In an interview with PC Gamer, Hasbro Senior Vice President of Digital Strategy and Licensing Eugene Evans said that the company is already in talks with potential partners about the conditional Baldur's Gate 4.
“A lot of studios are approaching us, ready to take on the challenge: what does the future of Baldur's Gate look like? We hope that the answer to this question will take less than the 25 years that have passed between Baldur's Gate 2 and 3 ,” says Evans.
Evans also assured that Hasbro will not rush into choosing a partner, approach and product that "will represent the future of Baldur's Gate . " The company takes these issues “very, very seriously . ”
As for the players' favorite characters from Baldur's Gate 3, Evans hopes to see them in future releases, but he could not provide any specifics at this stage.
Subsequent projects in the Baldur's Gate series will inevitably be compared to the work of Larian Studios, but Hasbro is not afraid of challenges: "The bar has been set very high, and our goal is to achieve and exceed it . "
Following the success of Baldur's Gate 3, Hasbro has decided to allocate about $1 billion to develop Dungeons & Dragons games. According to Evans, these projects will be released within five years and will represent a variety of genres.
