Scientists have tried to find out what octopuses think about
Octopuses have brain waves that have never been observed in animals before. Scientists have been able to record the first ever brain recordings of freely moving octopuses.
This was done by implanting electrodes into the brain of animals and connecting them to data recorders under the skin. As a result, scientists were amazed by the brain activity of octopuses.
Octopuses and other cephalopods have long been studied because of their intelligence. Scientists recorded octopuses for 12 hours while the creatures slept, took care of themselves and explored their aquarium.
The recorded patterns of brain waves surprised scientists. Brain waves were found that were very similar to those found in the human hippocampus, write "Arguments of the Week".
