A new Bitcoin mining facility opens in the US — powered only by solar panels
See, not all miners hurt the environment. And that’s going to become a trend soon
Aspen Creek Digital Corporation (ACDC), the US mining enterprise, has opened a 6 MW data center in Colorado, which will be used to mine Bitcoin.
A 10 MW solar power plant will power the mining equipment. The company isn’t going to use all the center’s power to mine for themselves. Aspen Creek Digital also plans on letting third parties use their facility. The first client to do so is Galaxy Digital.
In the future, ACDC plans to open two other projects that use solar energy in Texas. The data centers in question will use 30 and 150 MW respectively. The first one will start computing in the summer, it will consist of 10,000 ASIC miners.
“Recent market volatility has demonstrated the importance of our core strategy: controlling power as the principal input in bitcoin mining,” said the CEO of ACDC, Alexandra DaCosta.
“This design enables ACDC to withstand volatility in the bitcoin market and insulate our operations from power market fluctuations. We remain committed to working with ecosystem players that have a strong operational background to help us reach our mining goals,” said Galaxy’s head of mining Amanda Fabiano.
