Kerbal Space Program 2 Confirms Early Access Release Date
After much anticipation and numerous delays, devs confirm that Kerbal Space Program 2 is coming soon to early access on PC.
Kerbal Space Program 2 will be entering early access soon, according to a release from Private Division and Intercept Games. The sequel to the hit space flight simulator was first revealed over three years ago in a trailer shown during Gamescom Opening Night Live and brings a list of new features to come during early access.
In the first game, players took control of the titular Kerbals and discovered a vast amount of ways that space travel could and could not be accomplished. Starting with rockets that would blow up at first ignition, players would, after some trial, error, and luck, eventually take their fleet and their space program to new places. Developed by Intercept Games and published by Take-Two's Private Division, Kerbal Space Program 2 seeks to improve on its predecessor via the steady release of features throughout the early access period.
Early access for Kerbal Space Program 2 begins February 24, 2023, on Steam, Epic Games Store, and other PC storefronts. The news comes following a string of delays to Kerbal Space Program 2 over the last few years. According to a roadmap released by the development team, the first part of early access will focus on improving the user experience in the game, exploring a revamped Kerbolar system with new parts, and revamping the tutorial and onboarding systems. In future updates, according to the early access roadmap, features will be added gradually through the early access period. The list of features includes tech tree progression, new colony parts, additional vehicle constructions, two new star systems for fleets to explore, and improvements to science and resource gathering.
Down the line, the much-anticipated multiplayer feature will be added to early access. Players will be able to cooperate and compete with friends as they explore space, and collide with both new planets and themselves in the game's space race. Bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements will also be included as part of the early access program, with developers asking for as much feedback as possible during early access. Until then, Kerbal fans will have the original to tide them over, as Kerbal Space Program was released on current-gen consoles last year. The sequel will see its own console release after the conclusion of early access on the PC, according to the development team. Despite the perilous road that the Kerbal Space Program 2 dev team took to get here, the news of the early access release comes at a good time for Kerbal Space Program fans. The wait will not be much longer before the time comes to send more Kerbals where no Kerbal has gone before.
Kerbal Space Program 2 enters early access for PC on February 24.
