GTA VI has overtaken Minecraft to become the second most popular game trailer of all time, but there’s still a long way to go until it’s first
In the month and a half since its premiere, the debut trailer for open-world crime thriller Grand Theft Auto VI has quickly surpassed the performance of other Rockstar games and now claims to be a historic record.
As the portal noted IGN GTA VI recently took second place in the ranking of the most popular game trailers in YouTube history, overtaking Mojang Studios’ block-based sandbox Minecraft.
Published on December 6, 2011 Official Minecraft trailer I have now chosen 167.8 million views while one and a half minute teaser for GTA VI which debuted on December 5, 2023, has already exceeded 168.6 million.
However, Rockstar’s future hit is still a long way from first place in the ranking of the most popular game trailers – GTA VI is not even halfway to becoming the record holder.
Oddly enough, it’s the mobile runner Subway Surfers – released on September 18, 2012, whose official Google Play trailer (attached below) has achieved impressive growth 361.4 million Views.
However, you shouldn’t be surprised by the viral nature of Subway Surfers’ promotional materials – it’s one of the most popular games in history, with more than 4 billion downloads worldwide. Maybe GTA VI can catch up by the time it releases.
GTA VI is expected to release on PS5, Xbox Series X and S in 2025. The game will take place in the fictional state of Leonidas, modeled after Florida. They promise “the largest and most believable world of all time” Series.
