π A record high of 64 countries are in the advanced phase of CBDC exploration, including launch, pilot, or development.
π19 out of the G20 countries are in the advanced stage of CBDC development, with 9 already in pilot.
π11 countries have fully launched a digital currency, including China with a pilot program reaching 260 million people.
πThe European Central Bank is preparing to start a pilot for the digital euro, and over 20 other countries plan to pilot their CBDCs in 2023.
πAustralia, Thailand, and Russia intend to continue pilot testing, while India and Brazil plan to launch their CBDCs in 2024.
πThe progress on retail CBDC in the US has stalled, but other G7 banks like the Bank of England and the Bank of Japan are developing prototypes and consulting on privacy and financial stability.
πThe US is focusing on wholesale CBDC development, with a doubling of projects since the G7 sanctions response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
