The US Federal Trade Commission wants to block the deal between Microsoft and Activision with an injunction
On June 12, 2023, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission will file a request for an injunction against the deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard, a source told CNBC. If the release’s information is confirmed, with this request the FTC will attempt to block completion of the transaction until its scheduled July 18, 2023 deadline. December 2022, the FTC filed a major lawsuit to block a $68.7 billion deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard. As part of this litigation, an initial decision must be made that is subject to appeal in federal court. Microsoft responded to a query from CNBC journalists that the company was satisfied with the injunction because it would allow it to move faster to a federal court hearing.
We welcome the opportunity to present our case in federal court. We believe that accelerating US litigation will ultimately lead to more choice and competition in the marketplace.”— commented the President of Microsoft Brad Smith.
The US Federal Trade Commission has not commented on its plans. It is worth remembering that in July Microsoft also expects to appeal the decision of the British competition authority, which also blocked the deal with Activision Blizzard.
